Download ExamShield

Download the ExamShield application on both your computer AND mobile device, at least 24 hours before your exam.

Download the ExamShield desktop app on the desktop or laptop you intend to use on test day. Ensure your computer meets the minimum requirements by checking the specifications in the “About” section of your computer’s settings:

  • Operating system: Windows 11, Windows 10 (Windows 10S and Windows 11S are not supported) or macOS High Sierra (10.13) onwards.
  • Dual-core 2.4GHz CPU or faster with 4GB of RAM.

It’s important to have the right computer hardware and software to avoid potential problems during the exam.

If your computer does not meet the specifications and requirements below and if you need further guidance, contact us up to 72 hours and no later than 48 hours before your exam.

On your exam day, if the computer you use does not meet the requirements below, we may need to close the exam session and reschedule your exam. If you need more time to prepare you can reschedule your exam at no charge up to 48 hours before the exam’s start time. If you choose to reschedule between 48 hours and 4 hours before the exam, you will be charged an administrative fee. If you reschedule your exam after this time, you will be charged a higher fee. Fees are dependent on country/currency and tax where applicable.

Download the ExamShield mobile app

Scan the QR code to download the ExamShield app on your smartphone. Make sure your smartphone has a working camera and can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Mobile Data.

  • Android 10 or later

Running the Examshield desktop app

  • Avoid using a work computer unless IT sets it up before the exam, as restrictions may interfere with ExamShield.
  • If a work computer is your only option, share the following with your IT department to allow ExamShield access through the Firewall and VPN.
    • If the ExamShield app asks for a Candidate Number and Exam PIN instead of your email and password, uninstall it, whitelist it on your firewall/antivirus, and reinstall it from here or the Microsoft Store.
    • If you are using Windows, ensure your computer is running Windows 11 or later; if not, you'll need to install Webview 2
    • If any issues persist in set-up, please contact our customer services.

What else will you need?

  • A wired headset (headphones with a built-in microphone). Wireless headsets (bluetooth or other) and external microphones are not allowed.
  • Keyboard and mouse (or another pointing device).
  • A single web camera which you can rotate 360 degrees.

On your test day

To be stress-free on your exam day, it is important to prepare properly.

Get your ID ready

  • Your ID Document must be valid and not expired.
  • Before your test, check that your personal details and ID Document number registered in your LANGUAGECERT candidate profile exactly match what is listed on your ID Document.
  • You will be required to take a photo of your ID Document and scan the microchip within your ID (if there is one) using the ExamShield Mobile app on your smartphone.

Set-up your smartphone for your exam

Fully charge your phone battery (min. 70% required).

Activate the ‘Do not disturb’ mode on your phone to prevent calls and notifications during the exam.

Open the ExamShield Mobile App and allow permissions (Camera, Microphone)– (For downloading, see Step 1. Download ExamShield).


System compatibility check

When you dowload and run the ExamShield desktop app, ExamShield will automatically check:

  • The system integrity and compatibility of your computer.
  • Audio quality.
  • Camera / video quality.
  • Your internet connection against minimum requirements.
The System Compatibility Check will check that your system meets minimum integrity, audio, video and network performance requirements. It may indicate basic system errors and provide relevant guidance. In case of more complex issues, please contact us here and we'll be happy to help.

Choose the right space

Make sure to choose the right room before starting your test to avoid needing to find an alternative solution at the last minute.

Your exam room

Your exam room must meet the following requirements to ensure a secure environment:

  • It must be private (open spaces and transparent walls are not permitted).
  • It must have one single door that can be closed and is visible through your webcam.
  • There must be enough light for the proctor to see you and the space around you clearly at all times during the exam. The light should not be directed towards the webcam.
  • You must be alone in the room.

Clean desk policy

  • You may only have one blank sheet of paper and a pencil or pen.
  • No notes, whiteboards or electronic devices (including wearables) are allowed except for your computer.
  • After completing your ID check, your proctor will ask you to put your mobile phone on silent mode and keep it out of reach during the exam.

Test onboarding

Make sure to log in to your test at least 30 minutes before the start time to complete your onboarding stress-free.

Run the system compatibility check

Even if you 've already done the system compatibility test, repeat it on the day of the exam to ensure you have all the latest software and system updates. The test will check your:

  • System integrity
  • Audio
  • Camera
  • Internet connection

The System Compatibility Check may indicate basic system errors and provide relevant guidance. In case of more complex issues, please contact us here and we'll be happy to help


Before you start your exam, save your work and exit any programmes such as Any Desk, Skype and MS Teams that could interfere with the running of ExamShield.

Avoid taking the exam at work if your work network uses a firewall or VPN. If necessary, share this guidance with your IT department for setup.

Self-Onboarding

The ExamShield platform will guide you through the self-onboarding process. You will need to:

  • Accept the Non-Disclosure Agreement.
  • Read the test instructions.
  • View a short tutorial to familiarise yourself with the exam process.
  • Check all the test rules and confirm that you have read and approved them.
  • Log in to the ExamShield mobile app with the credentials you used for the desktop app.
  • Follow the instructions on the ExamsShield Mobile app to take a photo of your passport and scan the microchip stored in your passport.

Connect to your proctor

After you complete your self-onboarding, you will connect to your online proctor or speaking examiner who will ask you to perform some basic checks of your test environment and ID before inviting you to start your test.

During your test

The LANGUAGECERT Online Proctor or Speaking Interlocutor will guide you through the test process and ensure your experience is comfortable, secure, and stress-free:

  • They will observe you in a non-intrusive way throughout the entire exam and be available if you need any help.
  • If contact is lost, you can reach the Proctor by talking to them directly or typing in the chat box.
  • If communication cannot be established, the Proctor will attempt to email or call you on the contact number provided in your PeopleCert Account to inform you of the next steps you need to take.
